Sector Development strategy

BBY’s Sector Development Strategy was adopted by the Empowered Communities East Kimberley Board in June 2021. The strategy recognises that there is a need for institutional strengthening and capacity building to increase opportunities for Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCO) in the East Kimberley; so we are well placed to take the lead to deliver contracted services to our communities and to lead work toward better outcomes for Aboriginal people and our families.

The strategy has been developed in partnership with Aboriginal member organisations in East Kimberley, and it is being implemented in collaboration with them.  ACCO’s are fundamental to Aboriginal employment and economic development, and BBY is committed to facilitating empowerment actions that build sustainable businesses across the region.

Our strategy has four pillars.

USING SOCIAL MEDIA TO SHARE OUR STORIES: WEBINAR

The webinar explores the ways Aboriginal organisations can weave brand stories on digital platforms and how to ensure the stories are engaging to help you connect with clients and the community on a deeper level. The webinar feature Communication Specialist, Natika Hawes-Wright, Kimberley Birds CEO,  Natasha Short and BBY’s Communication Coordinator Malvern Gareta – as they share tips and tricks for online brand storytelling.

minutes secretariat training

BBY delivered 3-hour training sessions with board directors and community members. The aim was to enable participants to understand the important role of a minute taker and efficiently record all the vital information discussed in a meeting. Participants were able to learn key learning skills like deciding what should be recorded, active listening, creating drafts and reports, organisational skills and much more.

Thinking strategically – workshop

One day workshops were held in Wyndham, Kununurra and Halls Creek to introduce tools organisations and communities can use to prepare work plans and develop a strong project logic. At a practical level emphasis was on recognising and engaging stakeholders; analysing the situation or problem using “Five whys” or ”problem tree models”; and developing clear links between goals, objectives, outputs and activities.
